The Design Life – Working From Home

I never thought I’d be the type of designer to work from home. I had always thought to myself, “What do people do all day if they work at home? Would they even get anything done since they’re in the comfort of their own home?”  But now here I am, working from the comfort of my home like I never thought I would be doing and absolutely LOVING it.

The journey to working at home has not been an easy one – but it has been SO worth it.

As soon as I graduated college I has always pictured working in the typical corporate environment where I had my own desk that I could decorate, friends at work I connected with, a great work environment and doing what I loved. But somehow the jobs I did get in a corporate environment (big and small) didn’t seem to have everything I was looking for. I also was getting extremely stressed and anxious about work every day (to the point that I would come home crying after work multiple times a week because it was a lot to handle.) I may have been being picky, but I believe you should never settle for something that makes you unhappy. I wanted to do something for a job that I loved every minute of and truly enjoyed – when you find a job like that it doesn’t even feel like work.

So long story short, I ended up leaving my job not knowing where I was heading next. That was a huge leap of faith right there but now looking back, that was definitely the best decision for my career and my happiness. The Lord was SO gracious to me and during that time blessed me more than I could have ever imagined.

I ended up connecting with a family friend who was in need of a designer. It was a work-from-home job that was a consistent paycheck and it was what I was looking for! So I took the job and then things started falling into place.

Once I started the consistent job, I started getting more offers from other clients needing design work, photography and social media management – all of white I could do from home! It was a dream come true.

It’s funny how God works sometimes. He takes something you never saw yourself ever doing and then uses that to bless you beyond measure.

Since I started working from home I have had a totally flexible schedule, gotten so many more new clients, have had almost no anxiety or stress and have been 110% happier than I have ever been! I wake up in the morning excited to “go to work” (which is currently my dining room table) and love that I get to have flexibility in my work day.

So if there is anyone out there that has had the work struggle, isn’t happy in their job or just wants to do something different – working from home is the way to go! It has changed my life and marriage for the better and has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
